Built atop Ublock Origin, AdNauseam quietly registers visits to blocked ads in ad network databases. As the collected data reflects a chaotic stream of clicks, user tracking, targeting, and surveillance become futile. AdNauseam is a free browser extension designed to obfuscate browsing data and shield users from tracking by ad networks. Simultaneously, it serves as a means to amplify user dissatisfaction with ad networks that disregard privacy and promote mass surveillance agendas. AdNauseam joins a broader category of technological systems that aim to serve ethical, political, and expressive purposes. Given the industry's failure to self-regulate or otherwise address the excesses of online tracking, AdNauseam empowers individual users to take matters into their own hands, resisting unilateral surveillance. From this perspective, the software adopts a strategy similar to TrackMeNot, using obfuscation to shift the power balance between trackers and the tracked.
