What is Iceraven?
Definitely not brought to you by Mozilla! Iceraven Browser is a web browser for Android, based on Mozilla's Fenix version of Firefox, Geckoview, and Mozilla Android Components.
Our goal is to be a close fork of the new Firefox for Android, designed to offer users more choices, greater customization opportunities (including an extensive add-on library), and more information about the pages they visit and how the browser interacts with them.
Notable features include:
- About:config support
- The ability to attempt installing a broader list of add-ons than what Mozilla's Fenix version of Firefox accepts. Currently, most add-ons queried from this AMO collection are unusable because they depend on code Mozilla is still working on in Android-Components, but you can try installing them. If you don’t see the add-on you want, you can request it.
- An option to pause tabs to prevent them from being killed (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1807364)
- An option to hide recently visited sites on the home page
No guarantees or assurances regarding safety, updates, or even stability! Please note that Iceraven Browser includes some unstable code written by Mozilla, along with our own modifications, all shipped using the stable version of the Geckoview engine. As a result, the browser may contain bugs introduced upstream. Currently, the binaries are automatically built by our GitHub release automation. These binaries are signed with a debug key. When we eventually release this officially to platforms like F-Droid, we will sign the APKs with a key suitable for public release.
Given the current way we create and sign releases, you may not want to rely on such "alpha"-quality software, as it may come with bugs. Therefore, use this browser only if you are comfortable with these limitations and potential risks.
