What is Optmeowt?
OptMeowt sends a Do Not Sell signal to all domains visited while browsing the web. According to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Regulation 999.315(d), such signals from California consumers must be honored. However, many companies respect these signals even when they are sent from outside California. Currently, OptMeowt transmits the Do Not Sell signal using five methods:
1. A new HTTP header developed as part of our proposed specification work at W3C.
2. The existing DNT header, which some publishers interpret as a Do Not Sell header.
3. First-party cookies implementing the IAB CCPA Compliance Framework for publishers and tech companies.
4. Third-party cookies for ad networks participating in the DAA's CCPA Opt-Out Web Tool.
5. Custom headers and cookies used by individual websites, maintained and updated in the Do Not Sell list.
Users can customize which sites receive the Do Not Sell signal. By default, every domain visited will automatically be added to the domain list and receive the Do Not Sell signal. However, users have the option to exclude domains that should not receive the signal. This functionality is accessible via the domain list in the extension's popup menu.
