The duration of each slide is calculated based on the words-per-minute (WPM) setting. This reading method is known as "Rapid Serial Visual Presentation" or RSVP for short. Research shows that the habit of internally "sounding out" (subvocalizing) words is a limiting factor that prevents faster reading speeds. RSVP eliminates the "sounding out" of words because displaying individual words does not allow time for subvocalization.
