uBlock Origin Lite

uBlock Origin Lite, also known as UBO Lite or UBOL, is a permissionless MV3-based content blocker. The default rule sets correspond to uBlock Origin's default filters: - uBlock Origin's built-in filter lists - EasyList - Easy Privacy - Peter Lowe’s list of ad and tracking servers You can add more rule sets by visiting the "Options" page—click the COGS icon in the popup panel. UBOL is entirely declarative, meaning no permanent UBOL process is required for filtering, and content filtering based on CSS/JS injection is handled reliably by the browser itself rather than the extension. This ensures that UBOL does not consume CPU/memory resources during continuous content blocking—only when you interact with the popup panel or options page does the UBOL service worker process become necessary. UBOL does not require extensive "read and modify data" permissions at installation time, so its limited functionality is available out of the box compared to uBlock Origin or other content blockers that demand broader permissions. However, UBOL allows you to explicitly grant the extension permissions on specific sites of your choice, enabling better filtering on those sites through cosmetic filtering and scriptlet injection. To grant extended permissions on a given site, open the popup panel and select a higher filtering mode, such as Optimal or Full. The browser will then warn you about the implications of granting the extension additional permissions on the current site, and you must decide whether to accept or reject the request. If you approve UBOL's request for additional permissions on the current site, it will be able to filter content more effectively there. You can set the default filtering mode from UBOL's options page. If you choose Optimal or Full as the default mode, UBOL will require permission to read and modify data on all websites. Keep in mind that this is still a work in progress, with the following ultimate goals: - No broad host permissions at installation time—users explicitly grant extension permissions on a per-site basis. - Fully declarative for reliability and CPU/memory efficiency.

uBlock Origin Lite is a permissionless content blocker based on MV3 APIs, offering reliable and efficient ad and tracker filtering without requiring broad "read and modify data" permissions by default.
