Product Information
What is Akkoma?
This is a fork of Pleroma, a microblogging server software that federates with other ActivityPub-compliant servers (= exchanges messages). You can host a server for yourself or friends, control your online identity, and still interact with users on larger servers. Akkoma federates with all ActivityPub servers like Friendica, GNU Social, Hubzilla, Mastodon, Miskey, PeerTube, and Pixelfed. Written in Elixir, it uses PostgreSQL for data storage.
Differences from Pleroma: Akkoma is a faster-paced fork with experimental features tailored for the fediverse niche its creators and contributors inhabit.
Not a one-to-one Pleroma competitor; it’s more opinionated and has a smaller community (a pro or con depending on your view).
Features:
Custom emoji reactions (Misskey-compatible)
Misskey-style Markdown support
Elasticsearch and Meilisearch for search
Mastodon frontend (Glitch-Soc/Fedibird-style) support
Auto-post translation via DeepL or LibreTranslate
Extensive modifications to Pleroma-FE
“Bubble” concept: Admins can group closely related instances into community networks
Stronger stance on domain blocks, enforced more rigorously
