Comrad is a socialist network: encrypted, unmonitorable, unquantifiable, and autonomous. Meet with comrades and securely message them, safely organize into self-regulating groups, secretly and spontaneously plan demonstrations, and help counter the police state and surveillance capitalism both online and offline. Why another social network? Is a "socialist network" even possible? Although the internet began with anarchist design principles, it quickly fell into the hands of a few of the world's largest corporations. It effectively replicated the capitalist mode of production within itself: the means of content production (social media platforms) were privatized, while the labor of production (posting) remained socially distributed. Exploitation exists in this relationship, whether in industrial factories or digital platforms, because the value you generate is taken from you, centralized, and privatized. But digital networks can be redesigned. The technology behind these social media platforms is actually quite simple. We can easily build our own social network—one that is secure, unmonitorable, and unmonetizable—providing the safety people need to communicate whatever they desire, including protests against capital and the state.
