Instantbird

Instantbird is an instant messaging client based on Mozilla XULRunner and the open-source library libpurple, developed by the creators of Pidgin. With over 250 add-ons, users can customize and extend its functionality. **Features** Users can set their own icons and display names. Multiple themes are included by default, such as "Bubbles," which features a "time bubble" function to show the duration between messages instead of timestamps within or adjacent to each message. Text copied from the Instantbird window is transparently reformatted to include timestamps before each message, a feature known as "Magic Copy." Instantbird also includes an add-on system that supports additional protocols, like LiveJournal’s LJ Talk, with more than 250 add-ons available. Other available features include "user interface themes, language packs and dictionaries, developer tools, and usability enhancements such as tab completion for nicknames, highlighting, buddy coloring, and vertical tabs." The developers have listed some of their "favorite" add-ons, such as: coloring buddy names, highlighting words in chats, tab-completing nicknames and commands, "Reply Nick"—double-clicking to insert a name, "Show Nick" in multi-user chats with color coding, and "Vertical Tabs" for arranging conversations vertically.
