What is Pidgin?
Pidgin is a chat program that allows you to log into accounts on multiple chat networks simultaneously. This means you can chat with friends on XMPP while sitting in an IRC channel. Pidgin is compatible with the following chat networks out of the box: Jabber/XMPP, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, and Zephyr. It can support more through plugins. Pidgin offers many features of these chat networks, such as file transfers, away messages, buddy icons, custom emoticons, and typing notifications. Numerous plugins also extend Pidgin's functionality beyond its standard capabilities. Pidgin is free and contains no advertisements. All our code is open-source and licensed under the GNU General Public License. This means you can access Pidgin's underlying code, modify it to suit your needs, provided you release the changes for everyone's benefit.
