What is Dedalus?
Dedalus is a creative system for generating Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) narratives. It is similar to other authoring tools like Twine, Undum, or Varytale.
Games created with Dedalus run in a browser, making it easy to deliver them to potential players.
The sample game is no longer playable. This is an implementation of *The Dark Cloak*, a very simple story designed to demonstrate how different authoring systems can realize the same game. Note that the original *The Dark Cloak* is considered Interactive Fiction (IF), while Dedalus generates CYOA, a different but related form of interactive storytelling. You can read the source code for *The Dark Cloak* in the examples directory.
You might want to read the technical details, or proceed to the tutorial and start creating amazing adventures!
Note: This tutorial explains how to write Dedalus stories in the most "canonical" way, but there is also an alternative syntax for writing Dedalus narratives called Dedlee. It doesn’t use HTML-like syntax, and you might prefer it. However, you should definitely follow this tutorial closely—it’s short, simple, and fun—and then explore Dedlee to decide which system you prefer.
