What is Nerdlog?
Nerdlog is a fast, remote-first, multi-host TUI log viewer featuring timeline histograms and no central server. Loosely inspired by Graylog/Kibana but without the bloat. Almost no setup required.
It focuses on efficiently querying logs from multiple remote machines simultaneously, filtering them by time range and patterns, while also plotting timeline histograms for quick visual insights.
Primary use case: Reading system logs (/var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog) from one or more remote hosts. Highly efficient even with large log files (e.g., 1GB or bigger).
While it does support other log formats and can work with any log file, the main driver for its development was this scenario: Our web service backends run as systemd services across multiple Linux instances, generating massive logs, and we wanted an efficient way to read them with timeline histograms—similar to tools like Graylog.
How to use Nerdlog?
