Originally developed by Patrick Meenan during his time at AOL for internal use, WebPageTest was open-sourced under the BSD license in 2008. The online version at www.WebPageTest.org operates for the benefit of the performance community. In September 2020, WebPageTest was acquired by Catchpoint, a digital experience monitoring platform offering synthetic monitoring, real-user measurement, network monitoring, and endpoint monitoring products. This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter, with plans to expand WebPageTest's capabilities and geographic testing footprint on WebPageTest.org by leveraging Catchpoint’s top-tier infrastructure, increasing capacity, and enhancing the consistency and quality of analytics. You’re free to use the WebPageTest code however you like—whether for internal use or to create non-competing commercial products—as long as you don’t develop offerings that compete with Catchpoint’s products or services.
