Adobe's AI Report for SMB Branding
Adobe Explores Branding Challenges in AI Era
Adobe has released a new research report addressing how brands can differentiate themselves in an age where artificial intelligence provides similar insights and recommendations to all businesses, potentially leading to uniform marketing pitches. The report focuses on small business owners (SMBs) and solopreneurs, highlighting strategies to maintain individuality.
The study interviewed 850 small business owners and solopreneurs in the U.S. to understand their use of AI tools and views on branding importance amid AI advancements.
Key Findings on AI Usage and Concerns
The report reveals that most SMBs are incorporating AI tools into their operations. However, nearly half of SMB owners reported that they heavily edit AI-assisted content before publishing it.
There is also growing awareness and concern among SMBs about the risk of generic promotions resulting from widespread AI access.
Adobe recommends that brands prioritize their own individuality and personality to stand out. As stated in the report: “When everyone has access to the same digital tools, the edge goes to businesses that apply their taste and point of view to their branding and marketing.”
The research explains that customers select small businesses based on who they are, not solely on what they sell. SMB owners are particularly aware of how their brand is perceived.
Specific Survey Insights
- Nearly four-fifths (79%) of SMBs agreed that having a clear point of view isn’t just good branding; it’s what makes people follow them.
- About 1 in 3 would rather post nothing than publish something that doesn’t sound like them.
- More than half (56%) agreed that when everyone has access to the same tools, the competitive edge goes to whoever has the best taste.

Importance of Brand Consistency and Mission
The report underscores that brand consistency and adherence to a brand’s foundation are critically important for engagement and growth in SMB marketing approaches.
This ties into branding fundamentals, such as understanding the purpose and mission of each business. The more a brand establishes its core reason for existence and its value to customers, the better it can incorporate this into its content.
However, the report notes that many SMBs lack trust in their instincts, with around 63% of respondents saying they second-guess their design and content decisions.
Adobe's Recommendations for SMBs
Adobe advises brands to develop a core mission or purpose statement to ensure consistency and clarity in content creation.
The primary focus should be on why a brand’s products or services matter to customers, followed by considering how to communicate that in promotions.
