Product Information

What is Dnsnet?

Based on DNS66, this project aims to continue the original application's goals through modern Android development practices. This is a DNS-based Android host blocker. In its default configuration, it utilizes several widely recognized host files to block ads, malware, and other unwanted content. DNSNet gives you greater control over which internet traffic enters and exits your device. You can download host files to block a set of known ad or malicious hostnames and then create exemptions wherever you see fit. It operates by creating a lightweight VPN service that filters your internet traffic while the device is in use. If you encounter difficulties connecting to a site or using an app, you can always exclude the app from filtering or create an exception for a specific hostname. ### How to Use It There is no input validation, so invalid IPv4 addresses for DNS servers are not rejected, nor are DNS server entries required to be URLs (though future support for URLs is planned, allowing the app to point to remote server lists). ### How It Works The app establishes a VPN service and routes all DNS server traffic through it. The VPN service then intercepts the packets, forwarding only those DNS queries that are not blacklisted. Custom upstream DNS can be configured. If this feature is disabled, the DNS servers of the current connection are used. ### Privacy Guarantee Privacy is the most critical aspect of DNSNet. Currently, DNSNet strictly minimizes data exposure: running it only reduces the amount of data leaving your device, rather than increasing it (except, of course, for fetching host files). For each request, we ensure only the necessary data leaves your device—no additional requests are sent, nor is extra information appended to the requests.
