What is Webscrapbook?
WebScrapBook is a browser extension that faithfully captures web pages in various archive formats with customizable configurations for future retrieval, organization, annotation, and editing. The project inherits from the traditional Firefox add-on ScrapBook X.
Features:
**Faithful Capture**: Can capture web pages as displayed in the browser without losing any subtle details. Metadata such as source URLs and timestamps are also recorded.
**Customizable Capture**: WebScrapBook can save selected areas within a page, preserve the source page (before script processing), or save the page as a bookmark. The capture of images, audio, videos, fonts, frames, styles, scripts, and more can also be customized. Web pages can be saved as folders, ZIP-based archive files (HTZ or MAFF), or a single HTML file.
**Organized Collections**: Captured pages can be organized in the browser sidebar using one or more "scrapbooks." Scrapbooks feature a hierarchical tree structure to organize data items, which can be further indexed for advanced searches (using combinations of titles, full-text keywords, custom annotations, source URLs, or other metadata). (*)
**Page Editing**: Web pages can be highlighted, annotated, or edited before or after capture. Notes can be created and managed in HTML or Markdown format. (*)
**Remote Access**: Captured data can be hosted on a central backend server and accessed for reading or editing from other devices. Alternatively, a static site index can be generated for scrapbooks, allowing them to be hosted on shared web servers that do not support dynamic web hosting. (*)
**Mobile Support**: WebScrapBook is compatible with mobile browsers such as Firefox for Android and Kiwi Browser.
**Legacy Scrapbook Support**: Scrapbooks created with the legacy ScrapBook (X) can be converted to a format compatible with WebScrapBook. (*)
• All or part of the starred (*) features require a running collaborative backend server, which can be easily set up using PyWebScrapBook.
