Design Decisions
Status actions (reply, boost, favorite, bookmark, etc.) are hidden by default.
They only appear on individual status pages. This is to reduce clutter and distraction. It might lower engagement, but we're not chasing numbers here.
Boosts are represented by a rocket icon.
The green double-arrow icon (Twitter's retweet) doesn't fit the term "boost." A green rocket looks odd, so I went with purple.
Timelines display short usernames (@username) instead of full account handles (@username@instance).
Although guidelines say "decentralization must be transparent to users," I don't think we need to shove it in their faces every time. Full handles also pose some screen-reader accessibility issues, but unfortunately, this web app isn't fully accessible yet.
No autoplay for videos/GIFs/anything in the timeline.
Timelines are already chaotic, with people, brands, news, and media all vying for attention. Let's not make it worse. (Current exception: animated emojis.)
Hash-based URLs.
This web app isn't meant to fully replace Mastodon's existing frontend. No SEO, databases, serverless, or any long-running servers. I might be wrong someday.
