What is Snikket?
Snikket is an ambitious project aimed at building a new type of messaging platform based on XMPP. Snikket strives to:
Provide an XMPP client for every major platform, each with consistent branding, terminology, and functionality.
Offer a simple XMPP service that's easy to deploy and maintain, delivering all necessary features out of the box for Snikket clients.
Currently, Snikket's primary use case is secure personal messaging. That is, our goal is to provide an open alternative to proprietary messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Signal, and Telegram. Snikket is not currently intended to replace enterprise/team chat solutions such as Slack, Discord, RocketChat, or Mattermost. This may change in the future if resources allow, but for now, we want to focus on doing one thing and doing it well.
