What is Gitweb?
Gitweb is a Git web interface. It is written in Perl and can be used as a CGI script or as a legacy mod_perl script (run by the ModPerl::Registry handler). It allows browsing Git repositories (or a set of Git repositories) using a web browser.
With Gitweb, you can navigate through directory trees of any version, view the contents of files (blobs), examine logs or shortlogs of a given branch, inspect commits, commit messages, and the changes made in a specific commit. Gitweb can generate feeds in RSS or Atom formats. You can retrieve any version of a file; if not disabled, you can download a snapshot of a project's specific version (the project tree at a given revision). You can also search (if enabled) for commits by author, commits added to the repository by a committer, and commits containing specific text in their commit messages (commit descriptions).
There is even a git-instaweb script available to set up Gitweb along with a web server for browsing local repositories.
