What is Nethogs?
Nethogs is a small 'net top' tool. Unlike most tools that break down traffic by protocol or subnet, it groups bandwidth by process. Nethogs does not rely on loading special kernel modules. If there's a sudden surge in network traffic, you can fire up Nethogs and immediately see which PID is causing it. This makes it easy to identify programs that are running wild and suddenly hogging your bandwidth.
Since Nethogs heavily depends on /proc, it currently only runs on Linux.
How to use Nethogs?
Nethogs is a small 'network traffic monitoring' tool that displays network bandwidth usage by grouping it by process, helping users quickly identify programs consuming significant network traffic.
