What is Pykidos?
Welcome to PyKidos, a small (and still rough) Javascript application that provides a Python playground for educational purposes. It is primarily intended for adults teaching programming to children and is not really designed for independent use by kids without adult supervision.
Grid cells (colors and text) can be manipulated using Python. You can create simple grid animations and respond to click and keyboard events.
Children (and adults) can write toy games to learn basic Python coding skills.
Features:
- Fully client-side: Data is stored only in your browser (local storage).
- Uses Pyodide, a CPython port to WebAssembly.
- Features the ACE code editor.
- Unicode emoji picker and color selector.
- Supports NumPy (and possibly other scientific Python libraries—though these currently require a quick pull request).
- Manipulate the grid (cell colors and text, including Unicode emojis) from Python.
- Respond to click and keyboard events on the grid.
- Animation.
- Download Python scripts locally.
- Share your code by generating a URL containing the entire code and encoded data (limited to a few kilobytes when compressed).
