If you want to correctly choose a UI color palette, you at least need to place them on a lofi UI or grayscale the entire UI on platforms like Figma, Adobe XD, or similar to better understand how these colors will actually look on the product. This process can take a long time (time is gold!). Clients—and really, anyone—often have very different impressions of how a palette actually translates in practice. So, during the design phase, there tends to be a lot of back-and-forth. We should aim to minimize this as much as possible. Another issue is that colors often appear differently across devices and monitors due to calibration differences. You might pick a color on your desktop only to find it looks completely different on a mobile device. These discrepancies should be addressed early in the design and development process to avoid further complications. A platform that allows you to visualize and implement all color choices could solve the above problems. You might argue that we already have design platforms (like Figma) for this. That’s absolutely true—ultimately, you should test your palette in your own designs firsthand. To showcase a palette on a design platform like Figma, you’d have to create a quick prototype, view it across different platforms, share it with clients, and so on.
