Ssvnc

Enhanced TightVNC Viewer Ssvnc adds encryption security to VNC connections. This package provides GUIs for Windows, Mac OS X, and Unix that automatically launch an STUNNEL SSL tunnel for SSL or ssh/plink for SSH connections to any VNC server (such as x11vnc), then start a VNC viewer to use the encrypted tunnel. The x11vnc server has built-in SSL support, but Ssvnc can establish SSL-encrypted VNC connections with any VNC server (if they run an SSL tunnel like STUNNEL or socat on their end). Ssvnc SSH tunneling works with any VNC server host running sshd that you can log into. Originally, the Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package was a project aimed at adding patches to the long-neglected Unix TightVNC Viewer. However, now the frontend GUI, encryption, and wrapper script features may surpass the improvements to the Unix TightVNC Viewer (see the list below for comparison). The Ssvnc Unix vncviewer can also run without the Ssvnc encryption GUI as an enhanced alternative to viewers like xvncviewer and xtightvncviewer. In addition to standard SSL, Ssvnc supports VeNCrypt SSL/TLS and Vino/ANONTLS encryption extensions for VNC on Unix, Mac OS X, and Windows. Through the provided Ssvnc VeNCrypt bridge, VeNCrypt and ANONTLS encryption can also work with any third-party VNC viewer you select via "Change VNC Viewer" (e.g., RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, etc.). The project is abbreviated as "Ssvnc" for SSL/SSH VNC Viewer, which is also the name of the command to launch it. There is a simplified SSH-only mode (sshvnc) and an even more simplified terminal service mode (tsvnc) that works with x11vnc on the remote side. The tool includes many additional features; see the description below. It is a standalone bundle that you can carry on a USB stick/flash drive to securely view VNC from almost any machine—Unix, Mac OS X, or Windows (if you create a directory named "Home" in the top-level Ssvnc directory on the drive, your VNC profiles and certificates will also be stored there). For Unix, there is also a traditional source tarball for building and installing in the usual way instead of using the pre-built bundle.
