What is Textpad?
TextPad is designed to provide the features and functionality to meet the most demanding text editing requirements. It can edit files up to the limits of virtual memory and is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Server 2003, and 2008. TextPad is implemented in accordance with the Windows XP User Interface Guidelines, placing a strong emphasis on ease of use for both beginners and experienced users. All commands are accessible via context-sensitive help, and right-clicking the mouse brings up a context menu. The Windows Multiple Document Interface allows for the simultaneous editing of multiple files, with up to two views per file. Text can be dragged and dropped between files.
In addition to the standard cut and paste functions, you can use commands to change case, transpose words, characters, and lines to correct the most common typing errors. Other commands enable you to indent blocks of text, split or join lines, and insert entire files. Any changes can be undone or redone, all the way back to the first modification. Visible bookmarks can be placed on lines, and editing commands can be applied to lines with bookmarks.
Frequently used command combinations can be saved as keyboard macros, and the spell checker includes dictionaries for 10 languages.
It also features a customizable Tools menu, comprehensive file comparison and search commands, as well as hypertext jumps from matched text to corresponding lines in source files (ideal for integrated compilers).
