What is Tftpserver?
Mac OS X comes with its own TFTP server, but every time I needed to start or reconfigure the TFTP service on my Mac, I had to use the terminal to issue some repetitive shell commands. As a result, I began developing this application as a simple AppleScript wrapper for OS X's built-in TFTP service. Later, a basic GUI was added, turning the script into an AppleScript Studio application (AppleScript code with a Cocoa interface), which was also released online as Tftpserver v. 0.3. Based on user feedback and requests, more features were incorporated. A year later, when I decided to learn "real" Cocoa programming, I rewrote the entire application from scratch in Objective-C; the outcome was Tftpserver v2.0, which is faster and more reliable than any previous version.
With this application, you can start/stop the TFTP service on your Mac and change its working directory—the location where any TFTP client (such as a Cisco router or switch) sends and receives files. Additionally, other features help you seamlessly transfer files to and from any TFTP-enabled device to your Macintosh acting as a TFTP server.
This is particularly useful when you manage a large number of network devices and want to store all their configuration files and operating system binary images in a secure location. These files can later be reused (or modified using a text editor on your Mac) to easily configure other similar devices from scratch or update their system image files.
