When a URL is submitted to urlscan.io, an automated process navigates to that URL like a regular user and records the activities generated by this page visit. This includes the domains and IPs contacted, resources requested from these domains (JavaScript, CSS, etc.), and other information about the page itself. urlscan.io captures a screenshot of the page, logs the DOM content, JavaScript global variables, cookies created by the page, and a wealth of other observations. If the site targets one of over 400 brands tracked by urlscan.io, it will be highlighted in the scan results as potentially malicious. While urlscan.io itself is a free service, we also offer commercial products for power users and organizations needing deeper insights.

We created urlscan.io at the end of 2016 to address these issues. Our focus has always been on breaking down the vast amount of data from website navigation into digestible pieces. Analyst-first, we continually strive to understand and predict what information is useful during investigations and which properties allow for adjustments.
