X Lets Users Re-Share Photos With Creator Credit

X Adds a Way to Re-Share Photos With Credit
X users now have a new way to re-share other users’ photos while crediting the original creator. Any later engagement on that visual content also contributes to impression counts for both the account that shares the image and the account that first posted it.

How the Photo Re-Share Works
As shown in this image, users can re-share visuals from another account. The shared image is overlaid with a link to the original creator’s profile.
X outlines the steps this way: “See a photo you want to share? Long press it and tap Post photo. The original author gets credit, and you both earn from Original Content Rewards.”
The sharing account does not receive all of the credit for engagement. X will ensure that everyone involved benefits through the app’s Original Content Rewards program.
Where the Feature Fits in Creator Payments
X launched Original Content Rewards in August. The program gives eligible creators the opportunity to earn money for posting in the app. X takes a share of its revenue from X Premium subscriptions and redistributes that money to the creators who generate the most qualified impressions each period. Payments are assessed every two weeks.
Who can receive content performance payments
Creators must be subscribed to X Premium to be eligible for content performance payments. They must also have generated at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the preceding 90 days, and they need at least 500 verified followers.
As described, the program incentivizes paying X users to generate the most engagement they can from other paying X users. A percentage of their combined revenue pool is allocated to creators, who are also paying to use the app.
What Changes for Duplicated Images
Until now, impressions generated from posts that included duplicated images were not eligible for the program. With this update, users can transparently share content from other users, and both profiles get credit.
The program is still described as fairly limited in scope, given that fewer than 1% of X users pay to use the app. Even so, the update expands the potential for participants to make money from image posts.
