LinkedIn's 'AI Slop' Reporting Tool Used by Over 1 Million Users

LinkedIn's "AI Slop" Reporting Feature Gains Rapid Adoption
LinkedIn has provided an update on its recently launched "seems like AI slop" reporting option, revealing significant user engagement since its introduction earlier this month. The feature allows users to flag content that appears to be low-quality, AI-generated posts lacking substantive value.
According to LinkedIn Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan, over one million users utilized the reporting tool within its first two weeks of availability. The platform clarified that this option does not automatically reduce a post's distribution but helps refine individual user feeds.
How LinkedIn Defines and Handles AI-Generated "Slop"
Sam Corrao Clannon, LinkedIn’s Creator Product Lead, explained the platform’s definition of AI slop: "We internally define AI slop as content that is potentially sophisticated or polished in its presentation, but lacks substance. So it doesn’t have any particular experience, perspective, or insight, but is sort of just empty text that’s posted to take up space and garner attention without effort."
Clannon emphasized that the tool is not intended to penalize all AI-assisted content—such as language refinement—but specifically targets posts perceived as low-effort or irrelevant. Reports primarily influence the visibility of flagged content for the reporting user rather than triggering broader algorithmic suppression.
User-Centric Approach to Content Moderation
LinkedIn is adopting an educational rather than punitive strategy. Users who receive multiple AI slop reports will now receive notifications encouraging them to reconsider their posting approach. Srinivasan noted that the platform evaluates multiple signals before adjusting content distribution, preventing misuse of the reporting system.
Early results indicate progress: AI slop content now receives 40% fewer views compared to a few weeks ago. "Despite the progress, we know we have more to do to ensure LinkedIn remains a place where you can find real people & real perspectives," Srinivasan stated.
Broader Efforts to Combat Low-Quality Content
LinkedIn is also promoting its profile verification system as a trust signal, allowing users to filter replies from verified accounts. Combined with the AI slop reporting tool, these measures aim to preserve engagement quality amid rising AI-generated content.
The platform’s multi-pronged approach reflects its commitment to balancing user control with content diversity, ensuring professional discussions remain meaningful. like.tg will continue monitoring LinkedIn’s evolving strategies to address AI-generated content challenges.
