## Meta Expands Reels-First Testing on Facebook and Instagram

Meta is experimenting with a significant interface change that would make Reels the default home experience for both Instagram and Facebook users. This test, currently active in India, represents a major shift from the platforms' traditional feed displays.

### Facebook's Reels-First Interface in Testing

According to a [TechCrunch report](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/06/facebook-tests-going-reels-first-in-india/), some Facebook users in India now see the app opening directly to the Reels feed instead of the News Feed. The traditional News Feed has been moved to a separate tab in this experimental layout.

User Nirav Shah shared an example of the new interface on X, showing a pop-up notification that declares "Reels are now front and center" when opening the Facebook app.

### Planned Expansion and Video Focus

Meta initially announced plans for this Reels-first experience [in July 2026](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/07/connecting-real-people-on-facebook/), with intentions to bring the test to U.S. users in 2027. The company reports that video content now drives 60% of all time spent on both Facebook and Instagram, with over 3.5 billion Reels shared daily across both platforms.

The current expansion in India follows several months of limited testing, as Meta evaluates whether a video-focused default interface can increase user engagement. This strategic shift aligns with Meta's broader emphasis on short-form video content to compete with platforms like TikTok.

like.tg will continue monitoring these interface changes as they develop across Meta's platforms.
