LinkedIn Rolls Out Digital Business Cards
LinkedIn Begins a Global Digital Business Card Rollout
LinkedIn is rolling out a new digital business card that lets users share LinkedIn profile information through a scannable custom display. The company says the option is rolling out globally over the coming months.
In its announcement, LinkedIn states: “You can now design and personalize your LinkedIn business card to express who you are professionally, add it to your digital wallet, and easily stay connected with people you meet in person. Rolling out globally over the coming months.”
The update is described in LinkedIn’s post on new ways to build meaningful connections.
What Appears on the Card
An image posted by Entrepreneur Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jason Fiefer, shared in connection with LinkedIn’s “Connection by Design” showcase event last week, shows the format. The digital business cards include a headshot and job role description drawn from a user’s LinkedIn profile, along with a QR code.

Users can also change how the card looks. Screenshots posted by Ishan Sharma on X show a range of design options for the display.

The simplified, customizable card is presented as another way to streamline LinkedIn connections at events. LinkedIn says people can add the card to a digital wallet and use it to stay connected with people they meet in person.
How It Differs From LinkedIn’s 2018 QR Codes
This is not LinkedIn’s first attempt at sharing a profile for offline networking. In 2018, LinkedIn added profile QR codes for offline connection.

That earlier option was conceptually the same as the new digital business card, but it did not include the custom design and creation tools now being introduced. The account of the rollout says the previous iteration never appeared to catch on as a significant connection tool. It also suggests that this version may provide another means of creating more in-person connection opportunities, though that outcome is not established.
