Meta Simplifies Threads Ads, Removes Instagram Account Requirement
Meta Removes Instagram Requirement for Threads Advertisers
Meta has announced a significant update for advertisers on Threads, eliminating the requirement for businesses to have an Instagram account to run ads on the platform. The change is part of broader efforts to make Threads a more independent platform within Meta’s ecosystem.
Alongside this update, Meta is introducing new permissions for Threads advertisers within its Business Manager tools. These changes will allow companies to assign Threads-specific access controls to employees, separate from Instagram’s existing management structure.
Dedicated Threads Access Controls Coming in 2026
According to Meta, starting in September 2026, businesses will be able to manage Threads profiles with dedicated, task-based permissions directly within their business portfolios. These controls will no longer be tied to an associated Instagram account.
Meta explained:
“Existing Threads profiles in your portfolio will initially retain access settings inherited from their previously associated Instagram account, though moving forward, you can customize and manage access levels for your Threads profile.”
This means businesses will gain more flexibility in assigning different levels of access—such as content moderation, ad management, or analytics—specifically for Threads.
Threads Grows as a Standalone Platform
The update aligns with Threads’ rapid growth, which now boasts 500 million monthly active users. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has suggested that Threads may have already surpassed X (formerly Twitter) in overall usage.
By decoupling Threads from Instagram’s advertising infrastructure, Meta aims to position the platform as a more independent option for marketers. The move could encourage businesses to allocate dedicated resources to Threads campaigns rather than treating them as an extension of Instagram strategies.
Regional Rollout Underway
Meta confirmed that the new Threads access permissions are rolling out globally over time, though they are not yet available in all regions.
This development marks another step in Threads’ evolution from an Instagram offshoot to a fully-fledged social media contender. Businesses can expect further refinements as Meta continues to enhance Threads’ advertising and management tools.
like.tg will continue monitoring updates as Threads solidifies its place in the competitive social media landscape.
