YouTube Adds Temporary Pause for Suspected Hacked Accounts
YouTube Launches a Temporary Pause for Suspected Interference
YouTube has launched a temporary pause feature for accounts that its system suspects have been hacked or interfered with. Under the new process, YouTube said it will temporarily pause certain features in order to keep a channel safe if it detects unusual activity. The measure could provide more protection and assurance for creators.
YouTube explained the automatic response this way: "When a channel is hijacked, hackers look to quickly lock account owners out and upload unwanted videos or live streams. To protect your channel and viewers, we'll now automatically apply a temporary feature pause if we detect unusual or unauthorized activity on your channel."
YouTube set out the process in its support thread, Introducing temporary feature pause for hacked accounts.
What the Pause Restricts on a Channel
YouTube said that while the pause is in effect, the channel will not be able to upload content, start a livestream, or add videos to playlists. The platform will also automatically pause the creation of custom thumbnails and prevent videos from being switched from private to unlisted or public.
Those limits apply when YouTube detects unusual or unauthorized activity. The company's stated purpose is to protect the channel and its viewers after activity that may indicate a hijack.
Security Review and Restoration of Access
"While this feature pause is in place, our security teams will review the channel's status, typically within 24 hours," YouTube said. "If your account security is verified, full access is immediately restored. If unauthorized activity is confirmed, we'll reach out with next steps to help you regain access."
The stated review therefore leads to one of two outcomes. Verified account security results in immediate restoration of full access. Confirmed unauthorized activity leads YouTube to contact the account holder with next steps for regaining access.
Viewer Access and Monetization During the Pause
YouTube added that viewers will still be able to watch and interact with channel content while these internal restrictions are in place. Channel monetization will not be affected.
The feature could offer more assurance for channel managers, many of whom have spent years building an audience in the app and monetizing their content. Those creators will have additional assurance about how their YouTube channel is protected in the case of hacks. The addition could also be highly beneficial for YouTube creators by impeding hackers' ability to steal YouTube accounts.
How a Paused Channel Is Flagged in YouTube Studio
"If your channel is paused, you will see a banner in YouTube Studio confirming that your account has been temporarily restricted for security," YouTube said. The company added that tapping the banner will provide additional information on the detected activity and a list of recovery steps.
The banner is the in-product notice for a temporary security restriction, while the linked details cover the activity YouTube detected and the recovery steps available to the account holder. like.tg continues monitoring social media platform updates that affect creator accounts and channel security.
