YouTube Expands 24/7 'Stations' Streaming Experiment
YouTube Expands "Stations" Experiment for 24/7 Streaming
YouTube has announced an expansion of its Stations experiment, allowing selected creators to broadcast 24/7 streams of content to boost viewer engagement. The feature, initially tested during the 2026 Coachella Festival, is now being rolled out to a broader group of creators, media channels, podcasters, and musicians.
How Stations Work
According to YouTube, Stations function as always-on streaming feeds where users can watch curated video collections from their favorite creators. The platform describes it as a "lean-back viewing experience", complete with live chat functionality to foster real-time interaction among fans.
YouTube’s statement:
“Stations let you watch collections of videos from your favorite creators as an always-on, lean-back viewing experience. You can watch and engage in real-time with other fans in live chat, making it feel like a shared viewing room.”
Gradual Rollout and Availability
While the feature is now accessible to more creators, YouTube emphasizes that the expansion remains limited. Only a small number of new participants will be added to the test pool initially.
Stations recommendations appear in users’ Home and Search feeds across the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on mobile, desktop, and TV devices. The feature is globally available, excluding Portugal, Switzerland, and Türkiye.
YouTube’s Push Into TV-Like Viewing
The Stations initiative aligns with YouTube’s broader strategy to compete with traditional TV. The platform reported in February 2024 that users watch over a billion hours of YouTube content on TV screens daily.
According to Nielsen, YouTube has become the top streaming platform by watch time in the U.S., nearly matching the combined viewership of Netflix and Disney+.
By introducing always-on creator streams, YouTube aims to further solidify its position in the evolving digital entertainment landscape.
