Google Lowers Requirements for Search Profiles, Expands Copyright Alerts
Google Eases Requirements for Search Profiles
Google has lowered the eligibility criteria for its search profiles, making it easier for creators and brands to secure a custom display in search results. The updated requirements now allow accounts with 35,000 subscribers or followers on YouTube, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter), or 100,000 followers on TikTok, to qualify. Previously, the thresholds were set at 100,000 for YouTube, Instagram, and X, and 300,000 for TikTok.
Search profiles provide a centralized presence in Google’s search results, featuring a header image, links to articles, videos, and social posts, and an option for users to follow creators directly from the listing. Google first introduced these profiles in June and has now adjusted the entry qualifications to broaden accessibility.
Enhanced Search Insights for Creators
In addition to lowering profile eligibility, Google has introduced new reports in Google Search Console. These reports offer creators deeper insights into the search terms driving traffic to their content, along with ranking data and search volume metrics. Eligible creators can set up their search profiles by visiting Google for Creators.
YouTube Expands Copyright Violation Alerts
Google’s subsidiary, YouTube, is also rolling out expanded notifications for copyright violations. Both channel owners and managers will now receive alerts for potential copyright claims and removal requests. According to Rene Ritchie, YouTube’s head of editorial, this change aims to provide better visibility into copyright restrictions, helping creators address issues more efficiently.
The update ensures that all responsible parties are promptly notified of violations, potentially speeding up the resolution process and safeguarding monetization opportunities.
