YouTube Expands Shopping Affiliate Program Access in the UK

YouTube is advancing its in-app shopping initiatives by opening its shopping affiliate program to creators based in the United Kingdom. The move allows eligible participants to generate earnings through product links featured in their content.

The shopping affiliate program lets qualifying creators tag products shown in their video clips. Creators receive a commission on any resulting sales activity from those links.

YouTube Partner Program changes related to shopping affiliate expansion

Program History and Lowered Entry Barriers

YouTube introduced the shopping affiliate program in 2022. At that time, creators in the United States, Thailand, and India gained access to the feature. Entry requirements started high, with channels needing more than 20,000 subscribers to qualify. The platform has reduced this threshold over time, bringing it down to 500 subscribers as of March.

UK creators can now participate and earn through affiliate links under the updated access rules.

How UK Creators Can Use the Program

YouTube stated: “We’re bringing the YouTube Shopping affiliate program to eligible creators in the U.K. When you join, you’ll be able to tag products from our partner merchants via Wayfair, Currys, Debenhams, Boots, M&S, Etsy directly in your videos, Shorts, and live streams, and earn revenue when your fans buy on the retailer’s site.”

Creators already eligible for the YouTube Partner Program can join the shopping affiliate option. This covers any channel with more than 500 subscribers.

YouTube also noted that participants can use additional shopping tools, such as timestamps. These allow creators to prompt viewers to shop at specific moments in the content.

Ongoing Development of In-Stream Shopping

YouTube continues to build out its in-stream shopping capabilities. The goal is to create more direct sales opportunities for brands while expanding monetization paths for creators.

In his 2026 overview, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan identified the expansion of in-stream shopping options as a key priority. He described the effort as part of making the platform “a premier shopping destination.”
