Meta Launches AI-Powered 'Meta Glasses' Starting at $299

Meta has officially unveiled its new line of AI-powered smart glasses called Meta Glasses, developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The announcement comes shortly after Snap's reveal of its upcoming AR Specs, intensifying competition in the wearable tech space.
Priced starting at $299, these new glasses represent Meta's push to make AI-powered wearables more affordable and mainstream. For comparison, Meta's existing Ray-Ban smart glasses start at $379.
"Glasses are the most exciting hardware category of the AI era — the ideal device to experience an all-day AI assistant that understands the world from your perspective," Meta stated in its official announcement.
Three Distinct Styles Available
The Meta Glasses lineup features three distinct frame styles:
- Meta Adventurer: A rectangular frame described as having "a timeless, versatile look," available in two sizes
- Meta Fury: A more stylized frame variation for fashion-forward users
- Meta Glasses by Kylie: A collaboration with media personality Kylie Jenner featuring an oval frame design

Consumers can choose from 26 different color and lens combinations at launch, offering significant customization options.
Key Features and Functionality
The glasses provide always-on access to Meta AI, activated by tapping a button on the frame. According to Meta, this represents the first AI glasses to launch with Meta AI powered by Muse Spark from day one.
Key capabilities include:
- Hands-free access to information (sports scores, restaurant recommendations, etc.)
- Visual understanding of the wearer's surroundings
- Calendar management and schedule assistance
- Image and video capture capabilities
- Open-ear speakers and advanced microphone array with wind noise reduction
The device offers over 8 hours of battery life per charge, extendable to 48 hours total with the included charging case.
Meta's Broader AI Vision
This launch aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of glasses eventually replacing smartphones as primary connective devices. With Meta investing heavily in AI infrastructure, the company aims to demonstrate practical applications of AI in everyday life.
However, the launch comes amid growing skepticism about AI's real-world benefits versus its potential negative impacts, including job displacement. Meta faces the challenge of convincing consumers that these AI tools can genuinely improve daily experiences rather than being luxury gadgets for the wealthy.
The Meta Glasses are now available in the U.S. and Canada, with the same AI technology also rolling out to existing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart glasses in these markets.
