Pinterest Highlights Teen Wellbeing in New Report
Pinterest Report Examines Teen Engagement and Wellbeing
Pinterest released a new report on Tuesday, detailing how teenagers interact with the platform and how its design fosters positive offline engagement. The study highlights the app’s role in promoting creativity and mindful digital habits among younger users.
Focus on Offline Inspiration
Pinterest positions itself as a platform that encourages real-world activities rather than endless scrolling. According to the company, teens actively use the app to explore interests, with 77% of active teen users utilizing the search bar to discover new ideas. Additionally, teens adjust their home feed settings nearly twice as often as other age groups, allowing them to refine their experience as their interests evolve.
Artistic inspiration is a major focus, with teen searches for drawing references, anime styles, sketch tutorials, and home décor significantly outpacing other demographics. Pinterest notes that teens search for art-related content 1.26 times more frequently than older users.
Wellbeing Initiatives for Young Users
To support teen wellbeing, Pinterest is expanding its distraction-free schools nudge, which reminds students to limit app usage during school hours. Launched in April 2025, this feature has already reached 4.5 million teens across the U.S., Canada, France, the U.K., Germany, and Brazil. The company plans to extend the program to over 30 countries.
Pinterest is also enhancing its digital literacy resources, including:
- (Me)dia Mindfulness, a hub for improving digital literacy
- "Protect Your Energy", a trauma-informed wellbeing space linking digital consumption to mental and emotional health
Philanthropic and Mental Health Efforts
Beyond platform features, Pinterest is increasing donations to youth mental health initiatives and collaborating with U.S. schools to connect students with mental health resources.
Contrasting Social Media Approaches
The report subtly contrasts Pinterest’s approach with platforms like Meta, which have faced criticism over teen safety concerns. By emphasizing offline engagement and wellbeing tools, Pinterest reinforces its stance as a positive alternative in social media.
