Threads Tests Threads Friends for Group Sharing

Threads is testing Threads Friends, an option that lets users share posts with a selected group of up to 50 Threads connections instead of everyone on the app.

Once users create a Threads Friends list, they can choose to post updates only to that group. According to Threads’ explanation, people added to a list can see that a post was shared with Threads Friends. If someone on the list likes or replies to the post, other members of the list can see that person’s username and interaction.

Threads said it is testing the feature with users in Ireland, Italy and Japan. People can be added to a Threads Friends group regardless of where they live.

The original report compared the option to Instagram’s Close Friends feature and suggested that smaller-group sharing could encourage engagement among users who prefer not to post every update publicly.
